The Fearless Protector - Gus

We're getting some good bonding time. He knows something is up. Some of you may know about my crazy cat - and I mean literally, he's crazy and on cat prozac. But anyway, the point is, he's been by my side about 80% of the time that I've been home in this bed. He's definitely a one person cat - and I'm his "main man". He's been good company, until he decides that he wants to play with my pens and the cords for the computer. Then we reach a disagreement and he gets banished for a while. But without fail, he returns. When people come over, he's right by my side - protecting. And he's not very nice to those who try to pet him either. Any normal person probably thinks we're nuts for putting up with his antics - but I love him to pieces.

It's interesting how pets know when their Owner is down and out. Not that I'm emotionally down, but he knows that things aren't "normal" right now. Which is pretty amazing.

It will be very interesting to see how the cats adjust to the babies. Gus is very intrigued by little people; Maggie just runs and hides. She's probably the smart one. Whenever we have babies in the house, Gus gets very interested. He sits right next to the baby and takes in the smells and noises. I anticipate that he'll probably be fine when the triplets arrive, until they are big enough to start pulling his tail and ears. We just need to keep him out of the cribs! And I say that in all seriousness - they make crib tents so we'll be watching him like a hawk. He means well - my fear would be that he would try to protect the babies too. Either way, he's going to be moving to the bottom of the priority list once the kids come. It makes me sad - he's been my baby for 9 years now. It will be an adjustment, for sure. Until then, I'll enjoy these last days with him - and so will he!
