Happy Hump Day

Well, I guess this marks the middle of the week; anticipating seeing the Perinatologist this evening so I'll post an update later tonight. Not much to report - just have a new found addiction to Sudoku - thanks for the tip girls! More later.

Update:
Another good peri report today on the boys; Baby B is about 1 lb, 11 oz now and Baby C is about 1 lb, 13 oz; Baby A still has a good heart rate but we noticed some thickening around his heart muscle which indicates that his heart is working overtime to keep himself alive. He’s doing a great job though – and although there still is not any hope for his ultimate survival, he’s doing his best to keep his brothers incubating a little bit longer. We did not get a size on him but it’s very obvious that he’s much smaller; the hope is just that he can hold out a while longer and not negatively affect Baby B in any way. The doctor believes that the cause of his demise is related to a placental issue; not a developmental issue or anything of that nature. He continues to grow, just at a very slow rate and not nearly enough to be able to sustain life.

One of the drugs that I am on to stave labor off (indicin) might be starting to have an effect on the amniotic fluid around both B&C, which is a known side effect of this medication. By going off of the indicin, the fluid will replenish itself within a few days so there is a possibility that I will go off of it for a short while in the coming days. We’re going to look again tomorrow or Friday and see if it still looks like the fluid level is decreasing and make a decision at that time. If I do go off of that medication, hopefully labor will not prevail, but if it does kick up again, there are a few other drugs that we can use to quiet things down again. Hopefully I won’t get “magged” again but even if I did, we know that it works and hopefully it would continue to buy us some more time.

My cervix is still holding pretty well but has dilated slightly (only to 1 cm) so I’m taking it extra easy trying to keep it from going any further for the moment. Not sure I have any control over that but mentally, it feels better if I try to stay as flat as can be.

Only 18 more days until the 28 week mark – at least we’re in the “teens” now and out of the 20’s. However, if the babies decided to come now, they have a very good chance at survival and a healthy life. Time is precious and we’ll keep holding as long as we can! Almost 25 & 3!

Your story about the bed reminded me of 'our' Nana. One of her favorite TV shows was St. Elsewhere. There was a recurring character, an older lady named Mrs. [something] whom Nana liked. In one episode, this lady got caught in a motorized bed gone crazy. She talked about, and laughed about, that for months. How proud she would be of you -- as we all are! I check your updates first thing every day. Love to all five of you.

Kate,

Craig is hooked on Suduko too. It seems like it can be addicting. Glad that it is buying some time.

I think about you and the babies ALL the time. I just told my mom yesterday as a matter of fact, that you should publish your journal-even before I read what everyone else was saying. What you're going through for the babies is so incredible and courageous. Just think of how many people you are helping out there and giving them hope. My heart goes out to you and all those that have gone through or are going through infertility since it wasn't so long ago that Craig and I were there too.

Blessings to you, Chuck, the babies, and all your family.

Love to all,
Robin
