As I write, tears streaming, I can't desribe how proud I am of my baby Cole. I got home this afternoon to read his morning therapy report, which was the best one I've ever read. We know he's been making incredible strides considering his early days - but to hear it from his therapist who has been with him WEEKLY for 18 months now, is just awesome.
She writes "Cole is doing awesome! His levels are at 18 months for stationery skills, 16 months for locomotion skills (walking) and 21 months for object manipulation; and they are improving every week. His quality looks great too and is getting better all of the time. Will reduce to 2 x's per month, starting in August." Did you hear that? They are backing off on his therapy! I've got mixed emotions about that since I will miss our therapist who has become a friend - but wow, what a milestone for him.
His real age is 22 months, adjusted age 19 months. He's covered more ground in catching up over the last 2 months than he's ever made in a time span like that. As a Mom, it's my job to worry. And although I don't obsess with worry, it creeps in at times, especially when JD appears to be much further along in his physical development and they are side by side 24/7. I've never waivered in my faith that Cole would catch up and be fine - but there have been some times when I've seen him so frustrated that I cried for him. From his first day on this earth, he's been a fighter. He doesn't give up. And as he grows, that becomes more and more evident.
Proud is an understatement. When I remember his first few days of life, when he was so sick they didn't think he would live; when his whole body fit in the palm of my hand; and the ups and downs he went through for so many months - it's amazing to see where he is today. Watch out world!
